It’s a shame how difficult it is to find this wonderful harbinger of spring but it is truly one of the simple pleasures of the spring garden. Deeply cut, deep green foliage forms a spreading mound that gives rise to stalks with nodding buds in early April. Flowers open soon after revealing big. 1.5-2″ diameter, cupped, white, 5 sepaled blooms that dance above the contrasting foliage into early May. This spring blooming Windflower does not skimp on the bloom and adds some sweet fragrance to go along with the pure beauty of its white flowers with contrasting yellow center stamens. This plant thrives in partial shade and will naturalize in your landscape as it spreads slowly but surely by underground rhizomes.
