A new species in Clematis is completely different then the traditional vining Clmatis. It is a bush type that does not require staking but it does benfit if planted with other tall perennials to lean on. Serious Black™ can also be grown in containers. Serious Black™ refers to its dark purple, nearly black foliage that matures to a deep olive green.  In spring small ivory flowers bloom in small clusters and frequently rebloom again in midsummer. Silvery seed heads follow in fall and really set off the dark foliage.
