California privet is a large shrub with dense, semi erect stems that can reach up to 15′ high. It is one of the tried and true hedging plants with its uncanny ability to be trimmed and shaped into any formal or informal form and it even performs admirably in moist, partially shaded areas. Its steady growth and semi-evergreen dark, deep green leaves add to its allure as a backdrop or privacy screen. Large 2-4″ clusters of white, strongly fragrant flowers are produced in June and July followed by shiny black fruits that attract area songbirds. Like all Privet, California Privet thrives on neglect and is very tolerant. If using it as a hedge, be sure to install individual plants 12-15″ apart for the quickest cover and thickness.

A densely branched deciduous shrub, Amur Privet features handsome green leaves that may be semi-evergreen in mild climates. Creamy white flowers are followed by black berries that ripen in fall and attract birds. Widely grown as a specimen plant, screen, or tall hedge. Tolerates a wide range of soils and urban conditions. Dislikes wet soils. Responds well to pruning.

If ever there was an under appreciated easy-care shrub that gives throughout the year, this has got to be it. Evergreen, slow growing and deer-resistant, this versatile beauty will please you 12 months a year, brightening the shade landscape wherever it resides. The milky foliage, mottled delightfully with shades of green, pink, and bronze, is pure summer happiness. Adding to the pleasure are the extravagant, long lasting, drooping clusters of small, creamy flowers that are well suited to cutting and show from late May through June. Autumn adds to the grand performance by providing intense purplish bronzing to the evergreen foliage that lasts through the winter. Plant in semi-shade for best results, and be sure to feed early in the season with an all-purpose acid fertilizer.

This evergreen is dense and showy with its rich mahogany and copper-toned new growth that really stands out against the glossy, green leaves. Native bees love the nectar from the fragrant, white, bell-shaped flowers that bloom in May. Its low, spreading form is perfect for grouping in shaded areas.

This variety was found in 1996 as a sport of the variety ‘Scarletta’ and offers something altogether different and distinct! You’ve never seen the likes of a Coast Leucothoe like this before, with its combination of bright burgundy, deep green, bright chartreuse and claret colored foliage that’s actually twisted and curly! What a show twelve months a year as its new growth emerges a coppery, orange-red color followed by long racemes of white, fragrant bell-shaped flowers in late May with the colorful foliage maturing to deep, lustrous green with red tips in the summer. Finally, as winter approaches, the whole plant turns an intense scarlet color that will set your winter landscape ablaze! ‘Curly Red’ will be a great creeping, flowing, mounding groundcover for partly to fully shaded areas and is striking planted alone or in groups.

A mounding shrub with a fountain-like appearance, this plant offers a range of foliage color through the year from bronze at flush, medium green in summer to purple-red in winter. Loves shade and moist, well drained soil, and is deer resistant. White, catkin-like flowers in May.

This unique selection has large flowers, consisting of layers of white, fluffy petals surrounding a yellow button centre over attractive dark green, toothed foliage. Excellent used in containers, borders, and as fresh cut flowers. Attracts Butterflies!

Single 2-3″ white flowers all summer long if dead headed. Lustrous deep green foliage. Hardy and durable if planted in well-drained soil and full sun. June-July. 2003 Perennial Plant of the Year.

Does well behaved automatically mean dull? In other worlds that may be a possibility but in the plant world, ‘Lacrosse’ can answer this question with an emphatic NO! Once you see ‘Lacrosse’ in action you’ll understand because, while its form is dense, compact, contained and exceedingly well behaved in your garden, it’s ability to bloom and make a huge entrance into the summer garden shows it to be anything but a wallflower! Big yellow centers on these 2.5″ diameter flowers are surrounded by pure white rays that actually have spoon-like endings on them giving the flowers even a little more with which to grab your attention. ‘Lacrosse’ loves full sun and loves to be grouped so it can really light up the garden from early July through late August with its outstanding bloom.

A garden classic, but with a sweet sugar rush. Huge, 4 1/2″ double rowed, creamy white blooms with a bright yellow eye coat the deep green foliage during the heat of summer. ‘Spoonful Of Sugar’ is loved for its compact, dome-like habit in the garden border, and is excellent in a pot, bringing bright, light sweetness to the patio or step.
