Mature leaves are green and leathery, producing a spectacular fall display of red and yellow. Creamy white flowers in May give way to Blue-black fruits. Upright habit makes it ideal as a specimen or small tree.
Bold and aggressive, this upright growing shrub may even take on the form of a small tree in the landscape. It displays big, deep green foliage that emerges in early spring and provides the backdrop for big 4-5″ diameter flattened heads of fragrant, creamy white flowers in mid May. Bluish-black berries are a prized late summer through winter food source for birds and small mammals, a convenient plus since this Viburnum is a favorite nesting plant for these same critters. Plant this selection singly or as a large area hedge in most any location since prunifolium tolerates shade and a wide range of soils from moist to dry. Plant it in a place where you can enjoy the red to purple fall foliage show that closes the growing season with a bang!
Enduring elegance for small spaces! You deserve a spring landscape that takes your breath away – and Wabi-Sabi® viburnum is just the accent you needed. Its elegant, lacy blooms are held on a strongly horizontal habit, which brings a unique architectural feature to the landscape. Foliage is dark green, glossy, and has the hallmark deep veining of the species, which altogether looks lovely in the landscape and performs well as a filler for cut flower arrangements. Fall color is a brilliant purplish-burgundy.
Vigorous and spreading, this selection’s symmetrical branching lines up with showy, brilliant white flowers along the tops of branches in late May. Red to black berries follow in summer. Vigorous nature makes it perfect for grouping to form a hedge.
