This narrowly columnar, upright grass displays handsome blue foliage that takes on twilight shades of shimmering, silvery purple in mid-summer. Purplish flower spikes add to the color in summer and mature to tan seed heads in fall. Easy to grow. Drought resistant, deer resistant and perfect for massing in the landscape. Birds love its flowers for seed and nesting material.

An upright ornamental grass that withstands adverse weather conditions. In summer, striking silvery blue stems form a columnar habit. Deep wine purple fall color. An excellent selection for mixing in a perennial border, prairie or in a more formal landscape design. Silvery blue blue foliage is held in a strong upright, columnar habit and in the fall the seeds attract many song birds.

It’s a perennial somewhere but not in New England where it must be treated as an annual. But boy is it worth it! The deep burgundy foliage and continually blooming reddish purple bottle brush flowers can’t be resisted. Dig it in the fall and overwinter in a greenhouse and the 3-4 grower will provide years of beauty. Great for container gardening.

“Wow” is how both you and your customers will describe this fiery, new version of a long time favorite. Like a Fourth of July fireworks display, Pennisetum ‘Fireworks’ will light up any summer garden with its striking variegation and brilliant color mix featuring the typical deep burgundy color of ‘Rubrum’ along the midvein of each blade surrounded by a variegation of hot pink color that will make this plant explode into your conciousness. While it’s not hardy in our area, who cares when it will provide a summer of this kind of riveting color in any sunny garden or in the midst of other plants in a sunny summer container. You’ll want it just for its immense ‘WOW’ factor and so will anyone else that sees it!

If you love Pennisetum orientale you’re going to love ‘Karley Rose’. This chance seedling is bigger and bolder than P. orientale with darker foliage, a more upright look, and wider, deeper pink inflorescences that start to show in late July and keep on wowing through the rest of the summer and fall. ‘Karley Rose’ is even hardier than the species meaning you can plant and admire with confidence!

Cut back in early April. Prefers a well drained soil in full sun. Divide clumps in late spring or early summer.

A cute, cuddly little edger for the front of the border or rock garden. Use with the other fountain grasses for a cunning repetition. Blooms in August to October.

Has all the beauty of the larger form condensed to a compact size. Wonderful for the smaller garden. Blooms August to October.
